St Albans - Albanet e Shenjte - Qytet ne Angli !

St Albans , i cili shqiperohet Albanet e Shenjte eshte nje qytet ne zonen e Hertfordshire , Angli . Qe ne fillim kur degjova emrin e ketij qyteti , krijova nje lloj kurioziteti , por si gjithmone e anashkalova duke menduar qe eshte thjesht nje perngjashmeri me emrin tone dhe asgje me teper.

Per cudi , fillova ta vizitoj shpesh kete qytet . Dilja me makine e bridhja rreth e rrotull . Befas , shikoj nje tabele e cila te drejtonte tek zbulimet arkeologjike qe kishin bere . Ne tabele kishte nje helmete romake .

Duke diskutuar me shqiptaret rreth ketij zbulimi nuk morra gje tjeter pervec te qeshurave dhe mosbesimeve . E lashe per ca kohe , por prape nuk me hiqej nga mendja mundesia qe ky qytet te kete marre emrin nga vete ne Albanet - Fiset Ilire.

Nuk ishte cudi , Anglia eshte pushtuar nga Romaket , prej te cileve ka marre edhe emrin Great Britain - Grande Britania.
Iliret ne ate kohe kane qene te pushtuar nga romaket , gjithashtu.

Akoma nuk kam mbledhur ndonje material te rendesishem me fakte apo foto per ta vertetuar kete ide , por ju premtoj qe se shpejti do i grumbulloj dhe do i ndaj me ju ketu.

Hapje e kesaj teme erdhi nga impulsi qe mu krijua tek po bridhja sonte me makine . Hengra nje darke ne nje restorant te St Albans dhe nderkohe qe po kthehesha ne shtepi , lexova nje rruge qe quhej " Old Albanian Street " . E fotografova tabelen dhe e ndoqa pak rrugen. Me coi afer nje zbulimi arkeologjik qe ngjante identik me Butrintin. Ishte nate dhe nuk ndenja dot gjate , por kaq eshte mjaftueshem per te vazhduar rrugen drejt se vertetes.

Ajo qe me ben akoma me teper pershtypje eshte fjale Saint - ( Te Shenjtet ). Ka dicka shume shqiptare dhe fetare ne kete mes vellezer.

Ai qytet 100% eshte populluar nga fisi Ilir " Alban " . ( prej te cileve ka marre emrin )

Ne javet qe do pasojne ( duke shpresuar per te gjetur pak kohe te lire ) do te vizitoj muzeumin dhe keto zbulime arkeologjike , dhe do mundohem te sjell edhe disa foto ne forum.

St. Albans is Hertfordshire's oldest town, a modern city shaped by over 2000 years of human occupation. The town first appeared as Verlamion, a Celtic Iron Age settlement whose name means 'the settlement above the Marsh'. After the Roman conquest of Britain in AD 43, it developed as Verulamium and became one of the largest towns in Roman Britain. Built mainly of wood, it was destroyed during the revolt of Boudicca in AD 60-61 but was rebuilt and grew to feature many impressive town houses and public buildings. It was encircled by gated walls in AD 275.
After the departure of the Roman Army in AD 410 the town slowly declined and the fine Roman City fell into decay. Its ruinous buildings provided building materials to build the new monastic and market settlement of St. Albans which was growing on the hill above, close to the site of St. Alban's execution. In the Norman Abbey Tower, you can still find the Roman bricks removed from the Verulamium.

THE LIFE OF ST ALBAN, FIRST MARTYR OF BRITAIN

ST ALBAN was the first martyr in the British Isles; he was put to death at Verulamium (now called Saint Albans after him), perhaps during the persecution under the emperor Diocletian. According to the story told by St Bede, Alban sheltered in his house a priest who was fleeing from his enemies. He was so impressed by the goodness of his guest that he eagerly received his teaching and became a Christian. In a few days it was known that the priest lay concealed in Alban's house, and soldiers were sent to seize him. Thereupon Alban put on the priest's clothes and gave himself up in his stead to be tried.

The judge asked Alban, 'Of what family are you?' The saint answered, 'That is a matter of no concern to you. I would have you know that I am a Christian.' The judge persisted, and the saint said, 'I was called Alban by my parents, and I worship the living and true God the creator of all things.' Then the judge said, 'If you wish to enjoy eternal life, sacrifice to the great gods at once!' Alban replied, 'You sacrifice to devils, who can bring no help or answer to the desires of the heart. The reward of such sacrifices is the endless punishment of Hell.' The judge was angered at the priest's escape and threatened Alban with death if he persisted in forsaking the gods of Rome. He replied firmly that he was a Christian, and would not burn incense to the gods. He was condemned to be beaten and then beheaded.

As he was led to the place of execution (traditionally the hill on which Saint Albans abbey church now stands) a miracle wrought by the saint so touched the heart of the executioner that he flung down his sword, threw himself at Alban's feet, avowing himself a Christian, and begged to suffer either for him or with him. Another soldier picked up the sword, and in the words of Venerable Bede, 'the valiant martyr's head was stricken off, and he received the crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.'
