During the 13th and 12th centuries BC the tribe of Molossi established in the east and central parts of Epirus. This is proved by finds after the excavation of the Vitsa area.

The state of Molossi tribe becomes the most powerful one in the region with the help of the Macedonian people since their king, Philip 2nd, married Olympias, a princess of the Molossi tribe and mother of Alexander the Great.
