24 July 2008 Pristina _ The Kosovo Police Service says they have seen one of the most notorious Albanian gangsters in the Serb-dominated area of northern Mitrovica.

Veton Elshani, KPS spokesperson, told Balkan Insight that Enver Sekiraqa, a notorious gangster, has been seen in northern Kosovo.

“We have good reason to believe that he is hiding in northern Mitrovica or somewhere in Serbia,” Elshani said.

Sekiraqa was recently sentenced in absentia by a Kosovo court for numerous criminal activities.

He has been in hiding since late August 2007, when police issued an arrest warrant for him, suspecting him of being behind the murder of an elite police officer. A man arrested for killing the officer who admitted the crime is seen as very close to Sekiraqa.

He was also wanted for different crimes such as illegal weapon possession and money laundering.
