Macedonian Muslims in Kosovo Complaint from Attempts at Assimilation

Skopje. The chairman of the Association of the Macedonian Muslims Ismail Bojda claims that Bulgaria is going to open its representation office in Dragas, the biggest municipality in the Gora region in Kosovo, the Macedonian Vreme newspaper reads today.
“It’s obvious that this is one more attempt at assimilation of Macedonians living in Kosovo. It’s sad because the Macedonian government will once again fail to do something to protect its people”, Bojda said adding that Gorani people live in very hard conditions with no status. Bojda has pointed out that Kosovo authorities, as well as authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina are also assimilating the Gorani people.
Yesterday it was reported that a Bulgarian national community has been established in Kosovo and that over 200 Gorani people have applied for Bulgarian passports.
Vreme adds that the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affiars have announced that it will give detailed data about the problem in the next few days. However, they have denied to comment the problem with the Bulgarian passports that seems to be more complex, the newspaper comments.
