BELGRADE (Reuters) - U.N. war crimes prosecutor Carla Del Ponte said on Monday she had brought to Belgrade two unsealed indictments linked to the Srebrenica massacre of up to 8,000 Muslim men and boys in the Bosnian war.
Del Ponte, currently trying to convict former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic in Europe's biggest war crimes trial since Nuremberg, also complained that the authorities in Belgrade had not been doing enough to help her.
She said the president of the United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague would present a formal complaint against Yugoslavia over its lack of cooperation to the U.N. Security Council next week in New York.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic, Del Ponte declined to reveal any details about the indictments but said they would be released later in the day.
``I brought two sealed indictments that are now unsealed,'' Del Ponte said.
The tribunal in The Hague sometimes issues secret ``sealed'' indictments so suspects are unaware they are wanted, giving security forces a better chance of catching them.
Top of Del Ponte's wanted list are Bosnian Serb wartime commander Ratko Mladic and his erstwhile political master Radovan Karadzic.
Each has been indicted twice on genocide charges -- over the siege of Sarajevo and the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.
The tribunal has already convicted a Bosnian Serb general, Radislav Krstic, for the mass killings at Srebrenica.
Del Ponte's office has repeatedly complained that the Belgrade authorities are not doing enough to arrest war crimes suspects in Yugoslavia or provide access to evidence.
``I'm very disappointed about the cooperation... I noticed some cooperation but my feeling is that many other obstacles are coming out,'' Del Ponte said.
``It is a fact that we have so many fugitives...who are not arrested, particularly the accused from the military,'' she said, adding the tribunal did not have access to military archives either.
