Youssou N'Dour lindi më 1959 në Dakar,Senegal,Afrikë.
Ansambli muzikor "The Super Etoile" , formuar dhe drejtuar nga Youssou N'Dour(grupi më i famshëm muzikor në Afrikë),zhvilloi një sitil te veçantë të muzikës argëtuese , që kishte influencë edhe tek këngëtarët e mirënjohur botëror si psh.Peter Gabriel dhe Paul Simon.

Më 1988 ,Youssou N'Dour së bashku me Peter Gabriel,Bruce Springsteen,Sting, dhe Tracy Chapman, organizuan turneun "Human Rights Now!"

Albumet e para muzikore ndërkombëtare nga Youssou N'Dour janë : "The Lion"(1989) dhe "Set"(1990) .Nga albumi "Set", duhet vecuar këngën "Shaking the Tree" - një duet fantastik me Peter Gabriel. Youssou N'Dour më 1992 publikon albumin "Eyes Open",që më pastaj do të nominohet për shpërblimin Grammy në muzikë.Youssou N'Dour që nga ajo kohë është ambasador(i vullnetit të mirë) pranë Kombeve të Bashkuara(UN) dhe ambasador i UNICEF-it.

Në albumin muzikor "The Guide"(publikuar më 1994) ,Youssou N'Dour në duet me këngëtaren Neneh Cherry , patën një super-mega-hit këngë të titulluar : "7 Seconds" .

Peter Gabriel (mik me Youssou N'Dour që nga dueti i tyre me këngën "In Your Eyes" nga albumi "So" nga Peter Gabriel) ka deklaruar se Youssou N'Dour është një nga këngëtarët më të mirë në botë !
