Romans Blue Tide Subdued By Red Sea Defences
Liverpool stood firm under fierce Chelsea pressure to book their place in the Champions League final after a 1-0 win at Anfield.
Liverpool went ahead after just three minutes when Milan Baros ran on to a crafty ball from Steven Gerrard. The Czech striker was brought down by Petr Cech, but the ball went loose to Luis Garcia who was on hand to convert. William Gallas attempted to clear off the line, but the goal was given.
Chelsea grew in stature as the half went on, although they found clear cut chances hard to come by. Joe Coles lifted ball across the area was as close as they came in the first-half.
Chelsea dominated the second-half, but once again found it difficult to create chances against a Liverpool defence superbly marshalled by Jamie Carragher.
After substitute Djibril Cisse had seen a shot deflected into the side-netting by Ricardo Carvalho, and Cech had saved from the former Auxerre striker, the impressive Eidur Gudjohnsen spurned a super chance when he drilled the ball across the area when well placed.
Liverpool held out for the six minutes of injury time to book their place in the final against either Milan or PSV Eindhoven.
