Helguera: "Winning the League? Anything can happen in football"

With Seville facing them, the Cantabrian player keeps on waiting for a failure from Barcelona. Even if the seven consecutive victories have not brought the expected result, the central player does not give up: "We are going to focus on our game and then we will see if Barça lose in Levante". Always optimistic, Helguera advises not to celebrate titles too early.

Being realistic, Are there possibilities in the League?
There are always hopes, but after the victory of Barcelona against Valencia, things have got complicated. We must win in Seville, to take advantage of any option if they lose against Levante. We must think of winning, otherwise it´s pointless to have faith and hope. There would be two games left and we have seen worse, though it depends a lot on them.

Did you watch the game at Mestalla?

I didn´t want to watch it, and when they told me that they had scored the first goal, I didn´t want to know anything else. It was the game we thought Barcelona could lose because Valencia, even if they aren´t well, they are a very difficult team.Barcelona have proved that they are quite strong and that´s why they are leaders in the League.

Now it´s time to play against Seville to increase your number of victories.

It´s a very difficult team. And everytime they play against us put things complicated, as they proved at Bernabéu, where they won us.

It will be Javi Navarro´s return after his sanction, and he has stated not to think of changing his way of playing.

We know the way he is, how he plays, strongly. Every player in Spain knows how to go for the ball because he goes hard for it, but he´s a great professional. It´s not a provocation, I don´t think he has the aim of making harm. In any move with him, I will try to play as strong as he does not to happen the same thing that with Arango. After all he has gone through, he will go ahead, it´s part of the job. He plays hard and perhaps Arango didn´t know him. I don´t think he does it wickedly. He´s a good person as I have proved when I met him in the National team.

Do you have any piece of advice for the forwarders?
No, I don´t. Because they are strong, as Ronaldo, very difficult to take him down. And then it´s Owen, that even though he´s small, he moves easily.

Can this season be described as a failure?
For Madrid, when we are not first, it´s a disappointment but not a failure. Maybe it was last year because we sank. This year we have gone from less to more. This season having so many coaches went against us. With Luxemburgo there was more calm and Madrid came out. The stability is important, if Camacho wouldn´t have left we would have had calm, but then Luxemburgo came and he has given us a lot of strength and we have been those winning more points in this second round.

Now the teams respect you again.
Last season, we played very well until the end of the Cup that was really bad. This year we have had very complicated games and we went ahead, as the other day in San Sebastián. They respect us and we are a different team.

But your second round is being considered differently, and the round closed by Barça last season.
At Real Madrid you always have to be first, but it´s getting more difficult. Look at Valencia after winning last year they might not be in the Champions. It´s a disappointment for everybody, first for the players and then for the fans. I have been six years and we have won many titles. It´s logical to be disappointed after two years without winning any title.



People are not talking about signing central players for what seems the first time in many years?
There have been two new centrals this year, and the team´s work has been very good, we are the second team less scored. But we must talk collectively, because the defenders have scored goals- It´s better not to talk about centrals.

It´s time to remember the points lost in the way.
You always think about it in games against Getafe, Athletic or Deportivo. Barça lost at Villarreal, but you cannot think about that, we must focus on Seville, a very difficult rival.

Bets for Ronaldo in the fight for the Pichichi (top scorer title).
He´s a great player and he can prove it any time because he can score two or three goals easily. Any of them can be the Pichichi.

What do you think about Barça preparing the champions´s party?
They will do what we have done other seasons. But the League is not over yet, and the celebrations too early are not good, and let´s hope something happens.
