both, I think...it's like, a moment of sadness today, defines a moment of happines tomorrow. Sacrifice the moment, for another moment! Everything is wrapped in a moment wheather it's in the now, past or future.

i think, depending on how one (or how Khayyam would've) defines(defined) happiness, that Khayyam has a point :)Postuar mė parė nga Manulaki

And,
anything may be criticized (ashtu si tha xeni), but its harder to see the true worth in something...
I said that you can't criticize O.H. ... so, what you added later was wrong...
anyway,
ciao

please don't misunderstand me
the reason why i "added to" (not changed) the answer was because I later saw that you had said something similar to what i was thinking...
Meaning that, I, like you, agree with O. Khayyam and I think I was making the same point about "being easy to criticize"... (therefore difficult to see the value in that which others may criticize)...
bye :)
PS: if i have misunderstood you, then i apologize ahead of time
Nothing to apologize... I feel better now ;)Postuar mė parė nga Veshtrusja
Good night (here is midnight...)
What`s the point of the topic,cause I just don`t get it.
Or does it have one,if not,why? :)
What about brainstorming over poetry? What do you think,we ought to try it sometimes.
It`s rather nice knowin people`s opinions about certain things,don`t you agree?
Anyways,have fun
We didn't land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us.
Involuntarily seems like I've initiated an intense discussion here. I would rather prefer not to discuss, simply because the topic is inappropriate, but that would mean ignoring your comments. Wouldn't that be unfair?
Everything may be criticized: I agree, that's why I wrote at the end of my post, easy to criticise, isn't it. Criticism itself may also be criticized...
I expressed my opinion and seems like I have to justify it. Considering as moral everything that promotes ones happiness, is too an egoistic assumption. We like not to obey rules (either moral, social, state rules etc.), and it sounds very tempting but it has certain consequences (whose goodness I doubt. What is good? :))
Questioning our conception of moral, happiness, good and so on, is not wrong, but that would lead to nowhere, because we have to find some common grounds to discuss. Accepting their commmon sense meaning (the meaning given to them from our society in general, if there is such a meaning) although does not give their precise meaning (does a precise meaning exist?), it's our onliest common ground.
In the case of his emphasis on the moment, to ignore the past and the future, we can not reach the right? conclusion, it's just a matter of choice. For me it is wrong, it may be the very contrary for others.
Did you get the point? I'm not so sure I had one.
Why are you so sure that spirit and mind are completely independent from one another? We may discuss this in another topic if you want with the other members. (We may also discuss it together later, just remind me when we meet. :) You love discussions.)Postuar mė parė nga xeni
I hate long posts and feel I'm starting to hate me own post because of that.
Greetings to all. you have some interesting ideas (difference makes them even more interesting.)

I wage not any feud with Death
by Alfred Lord Tennyson
I wage not any feud with Death
For changes wrought on form and face;
No lower life that earths embrace
May breed with him, can fright my faith.
Eternal process moving on,
From state to state the spirit walks;
And these are but the shatterd stalks,
Or ruind chrysalis of one.
Nor blame I Death, because he bare
The use of virtue out of earth:
I know transplanted human worth
Will bloom to profit, otherwhere.
For this alone on Death I wreak
The wrath that garners in my heart;
He put our lives so far apart
We cannot hear each other speak.

The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveller hastens toward the town,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands,
Efface the footprints in the sands,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveller to the shore,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
