TWO DIFFERENT LIVES
"I've lived two lives," he says. "Growing up I was completely sealed from the rest of the world. We had no idea how the other world lived, how they worked or what they were like."

He and his family moved from Albania to Boston in February 1996. He has since received USA citizenship and learned to speak English. "My dad thought it would be better for us," he explained. "He was thinking about us and giving us a better opportunity in the sport. 1996 OLYMPIC GAMES
With his gold medal already secure on points, Dimas ordered the bar loaded with more weight for his final lift. With a bellow, he hoisted 180kg to break his own world record. When Dimas, along with three other Greek gold medallists, returned to Athens, the nation once again exploded with pride. At the ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the mayor of Athens gave the athletes another gold medal and declared: "Worthy children of Greece, Athens opens its gates to you." 1992 OLYMPIC GAMES
He entered the 1992 Barcelona Games as a relative unknown but after one of the closest weightlifting competitions in history, he became an Olympic champion. After clearing 167.5kg in the snatch, he lifted 202.5kg in the clean and jerk to reach a total of 370kg. That total would be matched by 1991 world champion Ibragim Samadov of the Unified Team and Krzysztof Siemion of Poland. Ties are typically broken by awarding the decision to the lifter who weighs the least, but Dimas and Siemion weighed exactly the same [five grams less than Samadov]. FROM ALBANIA TO GREECE
Born in Albania, Dimas competed as Pirro Dhima until 1990. At that year's European Championships, he approached the president of Greece’s weightlifting federation and asked about moving to Greece. Dimas, whose grandparents were Greek, emigrated later that year. (nbcolympics.com 15/04/00)

Ai dhe atletja tjetër greke, Katerina Thanou, do të përballen të hënën me një seancë disiplinore pasi nuk kryen testet e drogës.

Ca eshte bere me keta te 2 eshte qe nuk ju kishin then kur te paraqiteshin per testin. Mbas kesaj historie fshihen shume interesa te tjera, dhe jan shume veta/burime qe ju intereson qe mos te mari pjes kenteri (dhe thanou) kete vit. Me vjen shume gjyna per Kenterin se e kishte ender te merte metalie ne lojrat olimpike ne shtetin e ti (dhe kush sportist nuk e ka kete ender). Per Greket ky eshte nje hero, po greket ke kan vlersuar ndo nje here ashtu si duhet qe te vlersojn kete? mos vlersuan Kolokotronin (hmmm vajta pak mbrapa) qe e futen ne burg dhe mbas vdekjes e beren hero?...dhe ta mendosh nuk beri as gje ai....thjesht e cliroj greqin! apo vlersuan kampionet olimpik grek qe nuk ju dhan te drejten te futen pa lek ne stadiume ne shtetin e tyre? dhe po ta mendosh as keta skan bere gje...yeah politikanet dhe familjet e tyre ne greqi te futen pa lek, kurse keta qe i dhan jeten sportit dhe nxoren greqin ne drite nuk ju takon. Dhe vim dhe te kenteri tani..nefakt ca beri ky? as gje mo, thjesht beri ate qe as nje tjeter nuk do bente dot, dhe beri te gjith greket krenar! Kurse tani dalin ca dhe dyshojn per budalliqe...keti njeriu i takone tepakten ti bejn nje bust ne qender te Athines dhe jo ta ofendojn keshtu, se eshte gjyna dhe turp per greket!

Ajo qe desha te theksoja eshte se shume sportiste marrin kombesi te ndryshme per te ecur perpara por kurre nuk e mohojne vendin e tyre, perkundrazi ata e kuptojne qe talenti i tyre eshte nje arme shume e mire per ti bere publicitet vendit te tyre dhe per ti treguar driteshkurterve (ne kete rast)italian apo greke se vendi i tyre ka jo vetem kriminele e hajdute, por edhe yje qe ndrijne ne te gjitha fushat. ATENE (Gre)- Tutta la Grecia è in apprensione. Dopo la vicenda Kenteris, anche l'altro atleta simbolo è in forte dubbio per la prova olimpica. Si tratta del sollevatore di pesi Dimas Pyrros che oggi si è infortunato ad un polso. Pyrros, 33 anni, ha vinto l'oro nella categoria 85 kg a Barcellona 1992, Atlanta 1996 e Sydney 2000 e in casa è chiamato a confermarsi per un poker leggendario. Per la finale della sua gara i biglietti sono esauriti.
