Ilir Fico's Bio
Ilir Fico (Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists) was born in Albania where he graduated as an architect. Along his work as an architect drawing and painting came along as natural allies of the career. Abstract painting was considered a sacrilege under the totalitarian regime, therefore the artist had to wait until 1994 to have his first international debut in Italy as member of a wandering exhibition called "Albanian Artists of the Renaissance" (meaning with activity after the fall of the Berlin wall).
Exhibitions followed in 1996, 1997 and 1999. The artist has dedicated many of his works to Mother Teresa, a charming symbol of endless beauty and peace. Upon arrival in Canada in 1999, the artist started a long and important work with canvases on "Houses of God in Canada" - a series of old and new churches, synagogues and other buildings of religious character.
Ilir Fico lives with his family in Toronto. His paintings are purchased in many different parts of the world from Italy, France, Germany to Canada and the US.
The Art Directory International - a world comprehensive publication - lists Mr.Fico among the top 20 artists of Albania.
