    How to Begin!

First, always to be sure about the information you are acquiring, talk, NOT to a general school advisor, But to a medical advisor.

Also, look up the medical universities, especially the ones that interest you, and see what their are looking for.

    Medical School Education.

"In general, the time needed to complete the requirements for an M.D. degree is four years. Usually all the schools have the same requirement, it may include some varieties such as electives, etc, but the basics are the same."

"Regardless of the time allotted to coursework and the differences in academic systems, the nature of the curricula is basically the same. During the first two years, there's a focus on the basic sciences. Courses include: Anatomy, Biochemestry, Genetics, Physiology, Pharmacology, Histology, Embryology and Behavioral Science. "

"Whatever the approach, the aim of the aim of the curriculum is to prepare the medical student for the final two you years of clinical medicine, which emphasize the application of sciene to the solution of clincial problems."

Dr. Goliszek goes ahead and gives us an idea of how much overloades medical students are: " To give you an idea of how much information is given to students during medical school, some students I've talked to form study groups in wich one student attends lectures and takes notes, another does the outside readings, and still another organizes study notes and does other academic requriments."

If these students were not in a group their probably would not be able te finish all their work.

"Mecial school can be a very difficult time for students who lack the desire and motivation to work hard and don't have the necessary attribure to cope with a medical shcool curriculum. According to studies, an individual must have five qualities in order to ensure success in medical school." (Dr. Andrew Goliszek, 2000).

    1. Strong Motivation
    2. Ability to pursue problems in great depth
    3. A capacity for sustained scholarships
    4. A capacity to thing logically and reason clearly
    5. A persistent sense of pressure to wonder and seek answers to problems.

"Having these qualities doesn't necesseraly mean that an idnividual will get through medical shcool with flying colors."

    Clinical Clerkships.

"Usually, the last two years of medical curriculum consist of many clinical clerkships in which students participate in patient care settings." Also, try to get interships.

Study, Learning & Test Taking Skills.

"Some students are "naturals" at study. They catch on, learn quickly and remember facts easily. Some don't do as well because of many problems."

"Successful students "behave" in certain ways that ensure success. They have the right attitude, they're motivated, they paty attention, they're more relaxed, and they ignore distractions that interfere with learning."

"Studies have identified four areas that will help an individual become better all around student."

    1. Paying Attention.
    2. Learning and Remembering.
    3. Studying.
    4. Test- Taking.

Developing and Improving Learning and Study Skills.

Information -> Information is Organized -> Information is Input into the Brain -> Information is Processed -> Information is Reproduced.

    A. Organizing Information:

The first step is improving learning skills to organize all the information given to your. You do this by note taking. Usually you write the main keys and words important to the topic.

    B. Inputing Information: The Art of Studying.

The second step in improving learning skills is being able to take the material you've organized and inputting it into your brain in the most effective way possible. When you study do some planning ahead of time.

    1. Find your best study time.
    2. Manage your time efficiently.
    3. Establish a place to study.
    4. Preview any material before you actually get down to serious studying.
    5. As you rewrite your notes, say the material out loud to yourself.
    6. Form a study group and exchange ideas with other students.

    C. Proccessing Information: Recall and Memorization.

The thirst step is improving study skills and perhaps the most important in terms of helping you prepare for exams is conditioning the brain to recall information. Conditioning your brain to repeat the material you've organized is a matter of not waiting until the last minute.

    1. Make a conscious decision to remember.
    2. At the end of each day, go over the material you've input that day.
    3. At the end of the week, review the notes you've accumulated since the class first began.
    4. Find the main idea of the topic.
    5. Use flash cards you've made as often as it takes to learn things you need to memorize.
    6. A week or so before the exam, beging lecturing to yourself from your notes.
    7. Anticipate exam questions.
    8. Discuss the information to be learned with others.
    9. Use mental techniques or ticks to help your remember namesk definitions, words, etc.

    D. Reproducing Information.

The final step, and the only one you ultimately workk toward, is being able to take the information you've processed and reproduce it on an exam.

    1. Never study the night before the exam.
    2. IF the exam includes question that will require knowledge of formulas and equations, here's a technique that works for students who freeze during those kinds of exams. As soon as you get your exam paper, turn it over and write down the formulas or equations.
    3. Whatever the possible, answer the questions without looking at the alternatives.
    4. Watch for restrictive words such as : only, rarely, primarily.
    5. After yo ufinish the exam, go back and reread your answers.
Be yourself and you will always be in fashion.

    Mecial College Admissions Test.

The majority of medical schools require that you take the MCAT as a prerequisite for admissions. The exam is given twice a year, in April and in August throughout testing sites in the United Stated. Medical schools prefer that you take the MCAT during the spring of the year before you plan to enter.

    MCAT

    Section:........................# of Questions.......Time

    Verbal .......................................65......... ......85 min.
    Break............................................. ........................10 min.

    Physical Sciences .......................77...............100 min.
    Lunch Break............................................. ...............60 min.

    Writing Sample ..........................2..................60 min.
    Break............................................. ..........................10 min.

    Biological Sciences ....................77..................100 min.

The MCAT is not like any exam you've ever taken before. It's extremely challenging, consisting of various passasges that test a student's ability to anlayze data, interpret results, and understand information presented in tables, graphs, and charts. A separe score is awareded for each of the four sections, and the scores are then sent to you and themedical schools you disigante on the application form 6-7 weeks following the test.

For the Verbal Reasoning, Physical Sciences, and Biological Sciences, the raw score (number of correct answers) is converted to a scale ranging form a low of 1 to a hight of 15. Th efinal score is a "curve" of how the entire group did on that particular test and it indicateds how much above or below average your raw test score was.

Typically, a score of 8 is the national average for each section, a score of 12 put you in the top 2 percent natinally, a 15th corresponds to the 99th percentile. The wring sample is scored from a low of 1 to a high of 6.

Keshilla shume te mira keto! Ja dhe ca nga ana ime:

    1) GPA eshte shume i rendesishem. Mesatarja me e ulet qe kerkon cdo shkolle me duket eshte 3.3.

    3) Volunteer Work. Sa me shume volunteer work, aq me mire.

Une do sugjeroja Princeton sepse eshte me klinik ne natyre kurse Kaplan ishte shume abstract per mua.

    6) Reading Comprehension. Ky eshte seksioni me i veshtire per shume studente, e sidomos per ne qe s'e kemi anglishten gjuhe te pare. Prandaj do sugjeroja qe t'ju behet huq qe cdo mengjes kur te shkoni ne librari, merrni nje reviste (jo Vogue apo People) por psh. The Financial Advisor etj etj dhe lexoni nje artikull te gjate.

Gjalica, nese ke pyetje, email me, ok?
