Over 15 million people are planning to go on holiday in June for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, according to new research from London Stansted Airport.
The mass exodus appears to echo the Royal Wedding last year, when more than 10 million people aimed to create an extended break by using the extra bank holidays. This year, by taking three days off work, Brits can get a massive nine days holiday in return.
Research has found that, of those who have already booked the time off, 25 per cent are planning to go abroad. London Stansted Airport is expecting to see a boost in the number of travellers this June as a result.
The top five destinations to escape to, according to the London airport, are Albania, Croatia, Morocco, Malta, and Istanbul.
The sunny destinations offer a wealth of activities to suit all tastes – from cycling through the Gramoz mountains in Albania, to sea kayaking in Dubrovnik and taking traditional Moroccan cooking classes in Marrakech.
Nick Barton, Managing Director of London Stansted Airport said: “If you’re looking to take advantage of the extra bank holidays this June, then we’ve got a number of new routes to some really exciting destinations. We have the biggest choice of European destinations and with millions of people looking to take flight, it’s a great opportunity to take advantage and explore somewhere new.”
The news comes as it was revealed that nearly two in five found it a struggle to book time off while one in five didn’t manage to book their holiday because colleagues had beaten them to it.
