Dozens of people have been arrested in Jordan following the suicide bombings that killed at least 57 people and wounded nearly 100 in the capital.
The arrests came as al-Qaeda in Iraq allegedly named the four bombers - all Iraqis, including a husband and wife.
"They vowed to die and they chose the shortest route to receive the blessings of God," the statement said.
In Amman, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan condemned the "heinous crime" and "the scourge of terrorism".
"No ideology, no cause can justify the vicious killing of innocent civilians," said Mr Annan.
Rare justification
The al-Qaeda statement appeared on a website often used to make such claims, but it has not been independently confirmed.
It named the bombers as Abu Khabib, Abu Muaz, Abu Omaira and Om Omaira.
It said the hotels that had been bombed were centres for launching wars on Islam.

The group seems to have been taken aback by the furious response, which included marches in Amman calling for its leader to "burn in hell".
The BBC's Jon Leyne in Amman says it is unusual for the group to put out additional statements justifying its actions.
Many Jordanians have - or had - some sympathy for the group, but few understand the reason for bombing a wedding.
King Abdullah vowed Jordan was "not afraid" and would not be cowed into changing its policies.
Most of the casualties in Wednesday's attacks were Jordanian.
The Grand Hyatt, Days Inn and Radisson SAS hotels were the targets of the bombings. The blast at the latter caused carnage at a wedding reception.
Prayers and condemnation
Jordanians have been saying special prayers of mourning in mosques and taking part in rallies on Friday.
There has been condemnation of the bombings from Arab voices ranging from Saudi newspapers to Palestinian militants.
Syrian-born Hollywood producer Moustafa Akkad - who was behind the Halloween horror films and the Anthony Quinn epic The Message - died on Friday of wounds sustained in the bombing.
His 33-year-old daughter Rima was killed in the blast.
The producer's death took the number killed to 57. At least three bombers also died.
DNA tests are being used to identify at least 14 bodies, including those of the bombers.
Jordan has become a base for Westerners who fly in and out of Iraq for work and has long been regarded as a prime target for attack, correspondents say.
Security has been tightened around Amman and Jordan's land borders have been closed.

An Iraqi woman suspected of being a failed suicide bomber from the Amman hotel attacks which killed 57 people has made an apparent confession on TV.
Police say the woman is the wife of one of three Iraqi male suicide bombers who attacked the three hotels, and that she too had wanted to blow herself up.
"My husband wore one [bomb] belt and I another - he told me how to use it," Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi said.
What appeared to be a deactivated bomb belt was also shown on Jordanian TV.
The woman, dressed in a traditional black Islamic gown and white headscarf, said she had taken part in the attack on the Radisson SAS hotel, where most of the victims were killed when a blast ripped through a wedding reception.
"We went into the hotel," the woman continued.
"He [my husband] took one corner and I took another. There was a wedding in the hotel. There were women and children.
"My husband executed the attack. I tried to detonate and it failed.
"I left. People started running and I started running with them."
'Zarqawi connection'
According to the televised confession, Mrs Rishawi arrived in Jordan with her husband on forged passports four days before the bombings.
Two other people accompanied them into the country, after picking them up in a car in Iraq.
"My husband organised it," she said.
"In Jordan we rented a flat. He had two explosive belts. He put one on me and he wore one himself and showed me how to use it. He said we are attacking hotels in Jordan."
The woman is also believed to be the sister of a key aide to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian-born fugitive believed to run the al-Qaeda in Iraq militant group.
The aide, Mubarak Atrous Rishawi, was killed by US forces in the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Falluja.
'Ball bearings'
Al-Qaeda in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the hotel attacks.
The three dead bombers have been identified as Ali Hussein Ali al-Shamari, from Anbar province, Rawad Jassem Mohammed Abed, 23, and Safaa Mohammed Ali, 23.
Mrs Rishawi, 35, was married to Shamari.
Earlier this week, an internet statement attributed to al-Qaeda in Iraq named four bombers it said had carried out the Amman attacks, naming them as Abu Khabib, Abu Muaz, Abu Omaira and Om Omaira.
Speaking at a news conference, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Muasher showed reporters photographs of a suicide bomb belt packed with ball bearings that the would-be bomber was said to have been wearing at the time of the attacks.
Jordanian TV also showed pictures of a bomb trigger.
