Job Description:
Purpose: The Mission Director is the top management position for
Mercy Corps in Kosovo with supervisory and managerial
responsibility over all in-country personnel, programs and
policies. The Mission Director provides the vision and leadership
in project administration and monitors overall program
performance by tracking progress toward reaching targets, while
maximizing budget resources and personnel development and
remaining flexible in a continually changing environment. The
Mission Director ensures that Mercy Corps programs are planned
and executed with quality, accountability, and measurable impact.
Qualifications: This position requires an MA or equivalent in
social science or management and 7 to 10 years of field
experience in international relief and development programs. Five
years of senior-level leadership and field management and proven
skills in financial management are necessary. Prior experience
with EC, PRM, UNHCR, USDA, USAID and other bi-lateral funding
agencies is required. Demonstrated ability to function as a
social entrepreneur and proven success with building, managing
and leading a team of professionals is essential. Successful and
proven negotiation, communication, organization, and
prioritization skills and experience are necessary. Effective
presentation, communication and negotiation skills with donors
and government officials are required. Experience and proven
skills in strategic planning and thinking creatively as well as
demonstrated sensitivity with people and issues of the region is
vital. The ability to function as a team player among peers is
required. The ability to work comfortably within the Kosovar
cultural environment is required.
Responsibilities/Duties:
1. Maintain effective and positive internal contacts with Mercy
Corps corporate officers and staff, and external contacts with
the EC, UNHCR, USAID, Embassy officials, Kosovo-based relief and
development organizations, Kosovo government officials,
international NGOs, other government officials, funding agency
officials, vendors, media and general public.
2. Attain Mercy Corps goals and strategies through the
development, implementation, review, presentation and management
of strategic plans, programs and projects by personal application
and delegation of responsibility.
3. Establish and maintain effective program and project
reporting, evaluation, and communication systems.
4. Oversees all reporting requirements to donors.
5. Recommend program priorities and explore, evaluate and present
new country and regional project opportunities that leverage
impact of Mercy Corps initiatives and/or complement Mercy Corps
activities.
6. Represent Mercy Corps programs with national and international
media, and participate in local community activities as
appropriate.
7. Establish leadership and personal credibility and implement
and maintain clearly understood chain of authority and
accountability.
8. Develop and maintain an adequate human resource plan
consistent with Mercy Corps policies, including current position
descriptions for all Mercy Corps Kosovo positions, personnel
orientation and professional development plans, personnel
evaluation system, field personnel policy manual, and personnel
grievance procedure system.
9. Oversee property and equipment acquisition, disposition, and
management.
10. Implement the Country or Regional Fiscal Year Annual Planning
Process and prepare report, consisting of Statement of Vision,
Goals and Annual Objectives, Program Summary and Budget Summary.
Process is to be participatory, involving all staff in each field
office.
11. Responsible for timely submission of accurate and
professional Mercy Corps country reports to the Director, Program
Operations, including board reports and mid-year program reviews.
12. Coordinate overall country budgets, manage budget within
approved spending levels and establish an annual cash flow plan
broken down by month to ensure a steady and adequate supply of
funds for program activity. Ensure accurate and timely financial
reports to donors and Mercy Corps headquarters.
13. Exercise sound judgement to ensure program expenses are
reasonable, allocable and prudent. Ensure all program funds are
spent in accordance with donor rules and regulations.
14. Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in
such a manner as to bring credit to MC and in no way jeopardize
our humanitarian efforts.
15. Other duties as assigned.

The Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, a grantmaking program of the Aspen Institute in Washington, DC, annually offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are members of minority groups. The Hearst Scholar serves as a summer intern with the Fund. Through this program, the Fund seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues relating to philanthropy, voluntarism and nonprofit organizations. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience.
Activities: In his or her summer internship, the Hearst Scholar undertakes general research and program support for the Fund's grantmaking and outreach efforts.
Requirements: The ideal candidate for this scholarship is a highly motivated continuing graduate or undergraduate student from an underrepresented community. She or he should have an excellent academic record and also have the following:

The Kokkalis Program is welcoming applications for a limited number of
small grants to be used
towards undertaking non-paying (or low-paying) summer internship and/or
research projects located
in Southeastern Europe or concerning Southeastern Europe focusing on,
but not limited to, the
following fields: development (economic, sustainable, human resources,
etc.), the public sector,
government, human rights, social policy and security. The grants aim
both to encourage and
support work experiences or research that complements students’
academic work, and to promote
summer work experience and research in Southeastern Europe.
Eligible to apply are students who are currently enrolled in
undergraduate, graduate or PhD
programs in any college or university. Students are responsible to
find their own internships.
HOW TO APPLY

* 1-page proposal describing their internship or research proposal.

of how the internship you have secured is the best opportunity for you
