Light up a fire of love within your soul
Burn up these thoughts and words form head to toe !

      (M2:17630)

A man in love , no matter what he says
the smell of love wafts love-ward from his mouth
He speaks of jurisprudence , what emerges?
from mystic poverty , a sweet effulgence.
He blasphems , the scent of faith arises.
He offers doubts , no doubt we grow more sure

      (M1:2880-830)

Free will endows our worship with its savor
for otherwise , the heavens turn, compelled
      revolving rewardless and unpunished.
On Judgement Day free will's the skill that's judged!

      (M3:3287-8)

    • A damsel said to her lover , "O fond youth,

      You have visited many cities in your travels;

Which of those cities seem most delightful to you ? "

He made answer , " The city wherein my love dwells.

In whatever nook my queen alights,

      Though it be as the eye of a needle , 'tis a wide plain ;

Wherever her Yusuf - like face shine as a moon,

Though it be the bottom of a well, 'tis Paradise.

With thee , my love , hell itself where heaven,

With thee a prison would be a rose-garden.

With thee hell would be a mansion of delight,

Without thee lilies and roses would be as flames of fire ! " .

With God is the best bargain ; he buys from you

your dirty fortune and gives in exchange light

      of the soul.

He buys the ice of the perishable body and gives a

      kingdom beyond imagination.

    - Rumi -

    • “ These spiritual window-shoppers,
Who idly ask, 'How much is that?'; 'Oh, I'm just looking.'
They handle a hundred items and put them down,
      Shadows with no capital.

What is spent is love and two eyes wet with weeping.
But these walk into a shop,
And their whole lives pass suddenly in that moment,
      In that shop.

      Where did you go? 'Nowhere.'
What did you have to eat? 'Nothing much.'

Even if you don't know what you want,
Buy something to be part of the exchanging flow.

      Start a huge, foolish project,
      Like Noah.

      It makes absolutely no difference
      What people think of you.”

    • "Look not at Time's events, which come from the spheres and make life so disagreeable.
Look not at this lack of daily bread and the means of livelihood.
Look not at this famine and fear and trembling and war and destruction."

      ...

"Look at this: In spite of all the world's bitterness, you are passionately and shamelessly attached to it.
Know that bitter tribulation is a Mercy!
Know that possessing the empire of Marv and Balkh is a Vengeance.
The cruelty of time and of every suffering that exists is easier than distance from God and forgetfulness.
For that cruelty will pass, but distance from Him will not pass.
No one possesses good fortune but he who takes to Him an aware spirit.

    • Ghazal 1919

Look! This is love -- to fly toward the heavens,
To tear a hundred veils in every wink,
To tear a hundred veils at the beginning,
To travel in the end without a foot,
And to regard this world as something hidden
And not to see with one's own seeing eye!
I said: "O heart, may it for you be blessed
To enter in the circle of the lovers,
To look from far beyond the range of eyesight,
To wander in the corners of the bosom!
O soul, from where has come to you this new breath?
O heart, from where has come this heavy throbbing?
O bird, speak now the language of the birds

Because I know to understand your secret!"
The soul replied: "Know, I was in God's workshop
While He still baked the house of clay and water.
I fled from yonder workshop at a moment
Before the workshop was made and created.
I could resist no more. They dragged me hither
And they began to shape me like a ball!

    • “ Keep Searching ”

      Even though you're not equipped,
      keep searching:
equipment isn't necessary on the way to the Lord.
Whoever you see engaged in search,
become her friend and cast your head in front of her,
for choosing to be a neighbor of seekers,
      you become one yourself;
      protected by conquerors,
you will yourself learn to conquer.
If an ant seeks the rank of Solomon,
don't smile contemptuously upon its quest.
Everything you possess of skill, and wealth and handicraft,
wasn't it first merely a thought and a quest?

    • “ How very close ”

      how very close
      is your soul with mine
      i know for sure
      everything you think
      goes through my mind

      i am with you
      now and doomsday
      not like a host
      caring for you
      at a feast alone

      with you i am happy
      all the times
the time i offer my life
      or the time
      you gift me your love

      offering my life
      is a profitable venture
      each life i give
      you pay in turn
      a hundred lives again

      in this house
      there are a thousand
      dead and still souls
      making you stay
      as this will be yours

      a handful of earth
      cries aloud
i used to be hair or
      i used to be bones

      and just the moment

      when you are all confused

      leaps forth a voice

      hold me close

      i'm love and

      i'm always yours

    Ghazal 911
    • “ When i die ”

      when i die
      when my coffin
      is being taken out
      you must never think
      i am missing this world

      don't shed any tears
      don't lament or
      feel sorry
      i'm not falling
      into a monster's abyss

      when you see
      my corpse is being carried
      don't cry for my leaving
      i'm not leaving
      i'm arriving at eternal love

      when you leave me
      in the grave
      don't say goodbye
      remember a grave is
      only a curtain
      for the paradise behind

      you'll only see me
      descending into a grave
      now watch me rise
how can there be an end
      when the sun sets or
      the moon goes down

      it looks like the end
      it seems like a sunset
but in reality it is a dawn
when the grave locks you up
that is when your soul is freed

      have you ever seen
      a seed fallen to earth
not rise with a new life
why should you doubt the rise
      of a seed named human

      have you ever seen
a bucket lowered into a well
      coming back empty
      why lament for a soul
      when it can come back
      like Joseph from the well

      when for the last time
      you close your mouth
      your words and soul
will belong to the world of
      no place no time
