Daria is a five year old girl.Doctors found that she has a brain stem glioma,that can not be treated in her country.(See Doctor's Page)
Since then,Daria and her family have been going through very difficult times.

Click "Like" in Facebook to support their causeIn February 2011, Daria was presented in Children's Hospital Boston with symptoms including headache, vomiting, dizzines, intractable hiccups, head tilt and ataxia.
She was found to have a cervico-medullary brain stem lesion which riquired brain surgery. From February to June 2011, she underwent three neuro-surgical procedures before eventually being diagnosed with an unusual brain stem glioma, a brain tumor.

After the last neuro-surgical procedure, the biopsy was finally possible, but unfortunately the brain stem lesion is inoperable because it is located in a very sensitive and important area. Also the risk of removing even a very small part of the tumor is very high and could cause serious or fatal damages.

In September 2011, Daria was semi-urgently commenced on treatment with chemotherapy in the setting of an increase in the size of the brain stem lesion. She was also treated with high dose steroids. Although in the scan the lesion appeared to be stabilized, Daria clinically had little improvement in symptoms and remained steroid-dependant.

In January 2012, Daria's therapy had to be changed. The second therapy has proved to be more effective with an improvement in symptoms and Daria has been succesfully weaned from steroids. She continues on with her chemotherapy.........
Daria's clinical course has been complex,and it will likely remain complex over many years. Children with low grade gliomas often require multiple courses of chemotherapy treatment. Due to the complex nature of Daria's illnes, and the difficulties encountered in stabilizing her, it is in Daria's best interest to continue her medical care at the Dana Farber/Children's hospital cancer center in Boston- Doctors said (See Doctors Letters at Doctors Page).

Daria's grandparents who are American citizens, petitioned in September 2008 for Daria's family to immigrate to the USA. The petition was approved and their documents are at National Visa Center waiting to be processed.The process is delayed because there are more applicants for visas than there are immigrant visa numbers available under the limitation prescribed by law. Daria and her parents have been separated from her sister Fiona for more than one year.
During this very difficult time they have their visas extended,but their status does not permit them to enroll Daria to preschool programs in the US and her parents to have the possibility towork legally and help their family. In these crucial moments of their lives it is very important for Daria's family that the process of permanent relocation in Boston be expedited. The family's reuninon will give Daria not only more strength to battle this lifethreating illness,but also an opportunity to enjoy her life as a healthy 5-year-old girl would.
