The Dallas Mavericks are the World Champions of basketball. The celebrated "Big 3", LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat are second best.
Wait a minute. I thought the Dallas Mavericks were a joke ? They had ancient 32 year old Dirk Nowitzki that critics said was too old, too soft and horrible in the playoffs. Their point guard, Jason Kidd was almost 40 years old and the player that substituted for him, J.J. Barea, was so little he looked liked one of the Munchkins from the "Wizard of Oz" . The rest of the players were castoffs from other teams that no longer believed in their abilities.
Dallas was supposed to lose to Portland in the First Round but the Mavericks shockingly won the series.
Dallas moved on.
Dallas was supposed to lose to last season's champions, the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers had legendary winning coach, Phil Jackson and superstar Koby Bryant. The Lakers were picked to roll over Dallas but they were crushed and embarrassed by the Mavericks.

Dallas was supposed to lose to Oklahoma City. After all OC had a better record and the best upcoming young superstars in the NBA Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Once again the Mavericks shocked the NBA by eliminating
the more powerful team from Oklahoma City.

Now they were in the Finals against the rock stars of the NBA, the Miami Heat. This was not even going to be close. The Heat were ahead 16 points in the 4th quarter in Game 2. It looked like the series was over. Miraculously the Mavericks erased the 16 point gap and won the game to even the series. The next game was won by Miami giving them a 2-1 lead in the series. Again it looked like it was over. Shocking the whole world the underdog Mavericks won 3 games in a row winning the NBA finals and becoming world champions with Dirk Nowitzki winning the Most Valuable Player award.
Finally I'll bring up the most interesting facts about the NBA Finals. The last time a white superstar dominated the NBA Finals was the mid 80's when Larry Bird played for the Boston Celtics. Not only is Dirk Nowitzki not black but he's a European that never learned to play basketball on the streets and playgrounds of the United States
