Rreth 20 monedha me figurën e Filipit të Dytë të Maqedonisë dhe të mbretërve të tjerë të lashtë maqedonas, janë gjetur këto ditë në lokalitetin “Muret e Ciklopit” që gjendet mbi rrugën Ohër-Strugë. Lajmi u konfirmua për ALSAT, nga drejtori i Drejtorisë për Mbrojtjen e Trashëgimisë Kulturore dhe Historike, Pasko Kuzman. Është zbuluar edhe depoja me rreth 1 000 shigjeta,- thotë Kuzman,- sipas të cilit bëhet fjalë për zbulimin ekskluziv në këto hapësira. Zbulimet konfirmojnë supozimet se kjo kështjellë filloi të ndërtohej pas vitit 358 p.e.s. kur Filipi i Dytë me ushtrinë e tij përshkoi këto rajone, ndërsa lokaliteti “Muret e Ciklopit” shërbyen për shumë kohë si pozicion strategjik për ushtrinë e tij.
‘Në monedha, paraqiten figurat e Filipit të Dytë dhe të sundimtarëve të tjerë pas tij. Ende nuk janë pastruar sa duhet, por në disa shihet figura e Filipit të Dytë. Kjo është koha e Maqedonisë antike. Ajo ishte dominuese gjatë gjithë kohës që ekzistoi. Janë zbuluar, jo vetëm monedha, por edhe shumë sende të tjera të asaj periudhë, fibul bronzi, enë qeramike. Në pjesën e Akropolit është gjetur depoja me rreth 1 000 shigjeta, që ishin vendosur në një vend. E gjithë kjo tregon se bëhet fjalë për një fortesë ushtarake”, sqaron Pasko Kuzman, drejtori i Drejtorisë për Trashëgiminë Kulturore.
Këto të dhëna janë të rëndësishme, jo vetëm për shkencën, por edhe për ofertën turistike të rajonit të Ohrit dhe Strugës. Gërmimet pranë lokalitetit “Muret e Ciklopit” do të vazhdojnë më Nga Drejtoria për Trashëgiminë Kulturore paralajmërojnë se së shpejti, këto zbulime do të bëhen publike për adhuruesit e arkeologjisë dhe historisë.

Canadian scientists using ancient coins to map trading routes

Canadian scientists probing the metal content of coins exchanged thousands of years ago in Mediterranean Europe have discovered a new way to map ancient trade patterns, to retrace economic ups and downs at the dawn of Western Civilization and even to shed new light on the collapse of the Roman Emp

Researchers at McMaster University in Hamilton have launched a research project in which nuclear radiation is used to identify changes in metal content among ancient Greek and Roman coins held in a world-class collection amassed at the university since the 1940s.
"As we determine what the coins are made of, we are then able to reconstruct ancient trade routes, understand the development of economies and even determine the extent of counterfeiting," McMaster archeologist Spencer Pope states in a project summary issued Tuesday. "This research will help us link the archeological to the historical to understand how we, as a society, got to where we are today."

A joint project between the university's classics department and its department of medical physics and applied radiation sciences, the ancient coin initiative involves x-ray analysis and a "proton microprobe" to determine how much silver, bronze or gold is contained in each piece of money.

What a lucky day for a guy who just started a hobby of metal detecting for a month. UK Dailymail reported that Nick Davies found this amazing haul of 10,000 Roman coins on his first ever treasure hunt. The stunning collection of coins, most of which were found inside the broken brown pot, was uncovered by Nick during a search of land in the Shrewsbury area - just a month after he took up the hobby of metal detecting. Experts say the coins have spent an estimated 1,700 years underground.

The silver and bronze 'nummi' coins, dating from between 240AD and 320AD, were discovered in a farmer's field near Shrewsbury, in Shropshire, last month. His amazing find is one of the largest collections of Roman coins ever discovered in Shropshire. And the haul could be put on display at Shrewsbury's new £10million heritage centre, it was revealed today. It is also the biggest collection of Roman coins to be found in Britain this year. Nick, from Ford, Shropshire, said he never expected to find anything on his first treasure hunt - especially anything of any value.

He recalled the discovery and described it as 'fantastically exciting'.

Nick said: "The top of the pot had been broken in the ground and a large number of the coins spread in the area. All of these were recovered during the excavation with the help of a metal detector."

The coins have now been sent to the British Museum for detailed examination, before a report is sent to the coroner.Experts are expected to spend several months cleaning and separating the coins, which have fused together. They will also give them further identification before sending them to the coroner. A treasure trove inquest is then expected to take place next year. Peter Reavill, finds liaison officer from the Portable Antiquities Scheme, records archaeological finds made by the public in England and Wales, He said the coins were probably payment to a farmer or community at the end of a harvest.

Speaking to the Shropshire Star, Mr Reavill said the coins appear to date from the period 320AD to 340AD, late in the reign of Constantine I.
